The Community Fund - Who wins, you decide!

Earlier in the year the Thanet Extra and Chandlers Building Supplies relaunched their Community Fund campaign, which proved to be extremely popular in 2010.  The Community Fund offers local charities, organisations and projects the chance of winning £500 to spend on anything they would like to enhance their service.

Each month three nominations will be put to the readers of the Thanet Extra to decide who will receive the donation.

 The first nominees for 2011 are:

Pilgrims Hospices

Based in Margate, Pilgrims Hospices is an independent charity providing specialist palliative care for people with illnesses that cannot be cured including cancer, heart failure, respiratory conditions, renal failure and neurological diseases.

On 20^th August 2011 Pilgrims Hospices will be holding a Moonlight Walk in Broadstairs where 600 ladies will be walking 7km at night.  The £500 donation would enable the charity to provide a chocolate bar and bottle of water for each of the participants.

East Kent Independent Dementia Support

East Kent Independent Dementia Support helps those living with dementia and their carers throughout East Kent.  Through their support groups they encourage socialism with informal get-togethers, memory clubs, lunches and outings, together with providing regular assistance to carers.

Currently running four support groups a month in the Thanet area, the Community Fund donation would be used to fund these and help towards the setting up of new groups.

St Christopher's Church, Ramsgate

Based on the Newington Estate in Ramsgate, St Christopher's Church provides a space that is used by the whole community.  Being utilised by people of all ages, interests and backgrounds it is a place where good friendships can be built.

If St Christopher's Church were to be awarded with the £500 donation the money would be spent on installing a new boiler for hot water and heating to help keep the church going

Now it’s your turn to be involved.  It’s your community so who will be awarded £500 will be entirely down to who your vote for.
