Somewhere over the Rainbow!
Chandlers Building Supplies has been giving their employees and customers the chance to become a Chandlers’ Champion, all in the name of a good cause. All the brave tradesmen had to do was become a hero for the day, and raise money for a charity of their choice.
Two brave souls, Martin Goldsmith, branch supervisor at Chandlers, and customer Jason Carter, chose the rainbow ward at the QEQM hospital in Margate as the recipient of the funds they raised. They presented the ward with a cheque for a total of £1,237 and a £50 Smyths voucher.
Back in April Jason took to the skies like Tom Cruise with his ex-military pilot ‘DJ’ for a 40 minute flight in a Bulldog aircraft, one of the premier aerobatic planes in the world. Jason took the controls to perform some loops and rolls before trying out some manoeuvres during a tail chase to defeat the enemy!
In September Martin became a superhero for the day by hurling himself out of a plane at 10,000 feet. After 30 seconds of freefall he plummeted through the clouds, the parachute opened and he floated to the ground. Since the jump he has been much more down to earth.
Martin commented: “I’ve always wanted to do something for the Rainbow Ward, as they did so much for us. This sky dive finally gave me the opportunity to do it.”
