Pilgrims Hospices receive a community donation
Every year Pilgrims Hospices need to raise around £9 million to continue to provide services. Around 75% of funding comes from the local community and over 80p in every £1 is spent on patient care. They plan to use this money to buy chocolate for the ladies taking part in their Moonlight Walk in Broadstairs on 20th August, to help them keep their energy up. This will turn the £500 from Chandlers in to at least £35,000.
Trust and Development Manager Yvonne Archer commented:
“I would like to say a big thank you to Chandlers. At Pilgrims Hospices we are very proud of the fact that all our services are free of charge and this is only possible because of the wonderful support we receive from our Friends.”
From now until the end of the year Chandlers will be donating £500 every month to a local charity, group or organisation. The details of three nominations will be printed in the Thanet Extra each month for the readers to decide who will receive the donation.
This month’s nominations are:
Newington Community Centre
The Community Centre is organising a big event for Newington with the idea to give a free venue for all the agencies working in the area to promote themselves. This same day will give locals the chance of a fun day with bouncy castles and the opportunity to showcase their handcrafts courtesy of Ramsgate Arts.
The centre would like the £500 to help towards funding of the day, including running costs, refreshments and publicity.
Thanet Phobic Group
The Thanet Phobic Group is a local based charity whose aim is to provide moral and practical support to those people whose lives are blighted by phobias and general ill-health associated with panic attacks.
Part of the work consists of issuing a monthly magazine and running a helpline. The Group would use the Community Fund money to help with the production costs of the magazine and with the running costs for the helpline.
Bromstone Primary School
Bromstone Primary School is a community primary school for children aged four to eleven that is committed to providing a rounded and exciting education. Last year the school ran a two week life cycle education programme that enabled the children to follow the early stages of a chicken’s life.
They are keen to run the initiative again, however the most disappointing part of last year’s programme was giving the chicks back once they were too big for the brooder box. They would therefore use the money from Chandlers Building Supplies to purchase a chicken coop and run to allow them to keep the chicks.
To place your vote simply email chandlersthanet@pmwcom.co.uk with the name of the project you want to win in the subject box, or alternatively call Jenny Fletcher on 01403 783400. Voting will close on Thursday 23rd June at 5.30pm.
If you are a local group that could do with some help, it’s not too late to send a nomination to Chandlers Thanet Community Fund, c/o PMW Communications, Stane Court, Stane Street, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 9HP.
