10th Margate Cub and Beaver Group win £500 Prize Fund

Chandlers Building Supplies is delighted to announce that the 10th Margate Cub and Beaver group is the winner of the October Community Fund Vote.

The group is located in a deprived area of Cliftonville and is dedicated to helping children from the local area. The group provides its members with a safe place to go and also helps children to learn the values of scouting and subsequent skills which can be applied within every day life.

Angela Mutton, Leader at the 10th Margate Cub and Beaver group, commented:

“We are delighted to have won the £500 Chandlers Community  Fund Prize and I would like to thank everyone who voted for us. This money will go towards the purchase of a water heater for our kitchen which will contribute to children’s badgework activities, such as cooking badges.”

Over the last 5 months, Chandlers has donated £500 each month to an array of local charities, groups and organisations.  To mark the final Community Fund, the prize this month is £1,000! The details of three nominations are printed in the Thanet Extra each month for the readers to decide who will receive the donation.

This month’s nominations are:

Red Arrow Youth Football Club

The Red Arrow Youth Football Club is a youth football club based in Thanet and has been running since 1987. The clubs has around 100 players, ranging from eight to 17 years old, all from the local area. The club is managed by a team of volunteers, none of whom receive payment.

The club would use the £1,000 prize to help pay the clubs running costs, enabling them to continue next season. The £1,000 would go towards funding kit, footballs, referees and pitch hire for the 100 strong club. Being able to pay these costs will also help them enter the Molten East Kent Youth League.

1st St Lawrence Scout Group and 6th Ramsgate Rainbows, Brownies & Guides

The Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides are made up of over 250 local children between the ages of five and 18 and all share a joint Headquarters. The HQ enables the groups to meet on a regular basis allowing all the local members to learn the essential skills that can be applied within every day life.

The groups recently acquired an additional piece of land that will be used for Outdoor activities. The £1,000 prize will be used to purchase a new lawn mower which will enable the group to maintain the new land allowing its members to enjoy the outdoor space.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School

The Primary School prides itself on being a living and worshipping community particularly in the religious and spiritual dimension of Education. Based in Broadstairs, the schools pupils range from aged from four up to 11.

The school recently purchased a Buccaneer ship to enable outdoor play, however currently the pupils are unable to access the ship in wet weather. The £1,000 prize would be used to lay a path, providing access all year round to the creative and healthy resource.
